Dedicated to exploring the embryonic elements of house and techno — the gold leaf sounds of Chicago and Detroit — Vaz’s first full-length opus, ‘Straight Vacationing’, is everything you’d hope for. ‘Detroit In Me’, with its simmering 303, pitch-bending tones and tinkering keys, is a pristine postcard image of early Motor City techno. ‘Stubnitz’ and ‘Fukuoka Liquid’ exhibit Fingers Inc depth, while ‘Just Another Round’ preps a Philly disco jam for a Chicago dancefloor circa ’85.
